URLgenius MCP Connector for Claude

The URLgenius connector lets you create and manage URLgenius app deep links directly from Claude. Turn a webpage, product, campaign, or in-app destination into a branded, trackable link. The link opens the right app when it's installed and falls back reliably when it isn't.

URLgenius works with your own mobile app or with supported third-party destinations, including Amazon, Walmart, TikTok, Instagram, and thousands of other apps and platforms. You create links conversationally, one at a time or many in a single workflow, without opening the URLgenius console or uploading a spreadsheet.

The connector is built for brands, agencies, creators, marketplace sellers, and marketers who need reliable app-opening experiences and faster ways to create campaign links at scale.

Features

  • App deep links from any destination: Paste a webpage, product page, social profile, or app-store URL. URLgenius detects the platform and builds the app-opening routing automatically.
  • Branded links with custom paths: If a branded domain is connected to your URLgenius account, links are created on that domain. Add a memorable custom path such as summer-sale for easier recall.
  • QR codes and campaign parameters: Generate QR codes and pass known campaign or attribution parameters as name-value pairs when you create a link.
  • Bulk creation in conversation: Create one link or many in a single request, with no spreadsheet to prepare or upload.
  • Find and organize links: Search your links by destination, path, tag, or last-updated date, and add or change tags.
  • Update destinations: Point an existing link at a new destination without changing the link itself.

Setup

You can connect URLgenius from the Claude connector directory or add it as a custom connector. Setup takes about two minutes and works in Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and Claude mobile.

From the Claude connector directory

  1. In Claude, open Settings > Connectors and browse the directory.
  2. Find URLgenius and click Connect.
  3. Sign in to URLgenius and approve access (see Authentication below).

As a custom connector

  1. In Claude, open Settings > Connectors, click Add, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Enter URLgenius as the name and https://mcp.urlgeni.us/mcp as the server URL, then click Continue.
  3. Keep the default authentication setting and click Add.
  4. Click Connect on the new URLgenius connector. If Claude asks you to confirm in your browser, click Continue connecting.
  5. Sign in to URLgenius with your email and password or with SSO.
  6. On the Authorization required screen, review the permissions and click Authorize.
  7. Back in Claude, URLgenius now appears in your connectors list. Under Tool permissions, choose whether Claude needs your approval before using read-only tools and write tools.

Authentication

The connector uses OAuth 2.0, so you never share your URLgenius password with Claude. Any URLgenius account can connect. If you don't have one, sign up at app.urlgeni.us.

When you authorize, URLgenius asks you to allow Claude to:

  • View your links
  • Create and edit your links
  • View your company profile
  • Let AI assistants act in URLgenius on your behalf

Claude can only access links that belong to the company tied to the account you signed in with. To revoke access, disconnect URLgenius in Settings > Connectors in Claude.

Available tools

The connector has four tools: two read-only and two that write to your account.

Tool

Type

What it does

Create link

Write

Creates a link from a destination URL, with an optional custom path and tags. Returns the link ID and short URL.

Update link

Write

Changes a link's destination and/or tags. A new tag list replaces the existing one.

List links

Read-only

Lists your links with ID, path, destination, tags, and last-updated time. Filters by destination, path, tag, or date.

Get link

Read-only

Returns one link's details, including destination, short URL, tags, and routing.

Usage examples

These prompts work right after you connect. Swap in your own URLs.

Example 1: Create a branded deep link

Prompt: "Create a URLgenius link to https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0EXAMPLE with the custom path holiday-gift and tag it q4-campaign."

What happens:

  • Claude calls Create link with the destination, path, and tag.
  • URLgenius detects Amazon and builds app-opening routing.
  • Claude returns the new short URL, which opens the Amazon app when installed and the web page otherwise.

Example 2: Create several links at once

Prompt: "Make URLgenius links for these and tag them all spring-launch: https://www.target.com/item12345, https://www.instagram.com/yourbrand, https://www.walmart.com/ip/123456789."

What happens:

  • Claude calls Create link once per destination with the shared tag.
  • Claude returns a list pairing each destination with its short URL.
  • If a destination already has a link, Claude reports the duplicate instead of creating a second one.

Example 3: Find links

Prompt: "Show me all my URLgenius links tagged spring-launch that were updated since October 1."

What happens:

  • Claude calls List links with the tag and date filters.
  • Claude returns the matching links with their paths, destinations, and tags.

Example 4: Update a link's destination

Prompt: "Point my holiday-gift link at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0NEWITEM instead, and keep its existing tags."

What happens:

  • Claude finds the link with List links, then reads its current tags with Get link.
  • Claude calls Update link with the new destination and the same tags.
  • Claude confirms the change. The short URL stays the same, so printed QR codes and shared links keep working.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Cause

Fix

"You need to sign in or sign up before continuing"

You aren't signed in to URLgenius in the browser.

Sign in on the URLgenius page that opens, then authorize.

Link not created; duplicate error

A link to that destination already exists in your account.

Ask Claude to find the existing link by destination instead.

Link not created; path error

The custom path is already in use.

Choose a different path, or leave it out to auto-generate one.

Tags disappeared after an update

Updating tags replaces the whole tag list.

Ask Claude to keep the existing tags when updating, or re-add them.

Link not found

The link belongs to a different URLgenius company.

Sign in with the account for that company.

Connector stopped working

Your authorization expired or was revoked.

Disconnect and reconnect URLgenius in Settings > Connectors.

Privacy and support

The connector only accesses the URLgenius data needed to view, create, and update your links. See the URLgenius privacy policy for how your data is handled.
